Monday Night Roundup
Posted by Katie Favazza - 08/25/08 at 10:08 pmHere’s a few of the items that caught my attention today:
- Over the past few weeks and while I was on vacation, I really enjoyed watching the Olympics–arguably more than ever before. Perhaps it’s because I’ve grown in an appreciation of my country, but I felt so patriotic and proud of all the American athletes. Apparently, I’m not the only one who was happy with the Olympics.
The remarkable ratings and billion bucks in ad revenue from the 2008 Beijing Olympics weren’t the only things NBC Universal got out of its two weeks of broadcasting the games. The company may also have hit upon a method for measuring video consumption, as viewers moved from TV screens to computer terminals and mobile devices.
- If you’ve been searching for a historical perspective today (and who hasn’t!), leave it to CATO to remind us that Adam Smith is still relevant and cool. Unfortunately, even Adam Smith might not have good news for Main Street, America tonight.
- Magazines are alive and well, according to the new Inc. 500 list. Maybe the Wall Street Journal should take this suggestion seriously.
- I’m heading to the Apple Store tomorrow to purchase a new laptop and an iPhone. In other cell phone news, did you know that there is technology in the works to make cell phones usable for deaf people? So cool.
- Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to make it to Denver myself for the action. The best coverage I’ve seen so far has come from Washington Wire, a Wall Street Journal blog, and Convention Extra, a Washington Examiner blog. (On a lighter note, I LOVE this analogy, courtesy of the Columbia Journalism Review.)
- Finally, I leave you with a surprising comment on the state of feminism today.
