How do you find the ‘right’ connections on Twitter?

Hello to all the readers of CatherineFavazza.com. My name is Kirsten Wright. You may have noticed that Catherine mentioned I would be writing once a week, contributing my knowledge and experience. I am a conservative Republican living in Orange County, California, working in marketing/social media and just trying to make it all work. My posts will cover topics of business, marketing and social media, with a bit of a right-wing spin. I hope you enjoy my first of many posts:

Media bias is a hot topic – and whether you believe it exists or not, it is hard to argue when you look at the facts. If you were on Twitter during the election, it was pretty obvious who the favorite was among the social media elite. I ran into the problem of trying to find people in my network to talk about Republican values and discuss the election. Of course, one to always try to find a solution, it led me to research how to find and connect with those in the ‘right’ frame of mind. And, how to find them in your network later on! Here are 4 easy ways to find and connect with other conservatives on Twitter.

  1. Add “republican” or “conservative” to your own profile. This will allow others to find you.
  2. Search your current network by using tweepsearch. Enter your Twitter name (with the @). It will pull up your users, and then enter the keyword to search by (Republican, conservative, right-wing, etc). It will show you all your Twitter friends with those words in their profile!
  3. Connect to new Republican Tweeters by looking at hasghtags and profiles. You can search for people using the hashtags #sgp (Smart Girl Politics), #tcot (Top Conservatives on Twitter) and #gop (Grand Old Party). Don’t auto-follow, as many Twitterers the use the hashtags maliciously, but it will help to narrow your field of people to review. Another great way to search is using Twollow and search profiles for the keywords: Republican, conservative, or GOP. This will often lead you to some ‘right minded’ Tweeters.
  4. Ask for recommendations. If you find someone that you like their mindset, ask them for fellow right-wingers that they follow, so you can add them. Using Tweepsearch, I pulled up my conservative followers, so here is a great list to get you started:

If you have another great way to find fellow Republicans on Twitter, please share!

And if you ever want to contact me, you can do so on my site, Wright Creativity.
