31 Days to a Better Blog: Who Are You and Why Are You Here?

Posted by Catherine Favazza - 04/07/09 at 08:04 am

I signed up for ProBlogger.com’s challenge, 31 Days to a Better Blog, and yesterday–Day 1–already has me stumped. The assignment? Write an elevator pitch.

What is an elevator pitch? I asked the same thing.

“An elevator pitch is an overview of an idea for a product, service, or project. The name reflects the fact that an elevator pitch can be delivered in the time span of an elevator ride (for example, thirty seconds or 100-150 words).” – Wikipedia

Ok, that makes sense. I sat down with a blank document ready to jot down ideas and make my own pitch, when two of the tips about writing an elevator pitch tripped me up:

  • Solve a Problem or Need - I’m a big believer in developing blogs that fulfil real needs and solve problems that people have. The problem need not be a big one (like World Peace) but you should be attempting to create something that people need on some level. Communicate this in your elevator pitch.
  • Define Your Audience - who is your blog for? Who are you attempting to attract? IF your blog is targeting a certain demographic or type of person (and it may or may not) – include this in your pitch. If your blog is for teens, don’t develop a pitch for grandparents – target the reader you want.

So, here’s where I need your help. I know why I write my blog. I know some things about who reads it. But I’d like to hear from you. Why do you come to the blog? What are you looking for? What do you expect? And tell me a little more about yourself, too. Who are you, readers of the blog? Are you male, female, younger, older, conservative, liberal, apathetic?

I’m already a day behind (but don’t worry, I’m not skipping today’s challenge) and I need your help. Please post a comment or contact me via Twitter and tell me: Who are you and why are you here?

I am here for 2 reasons:

    1. There are very few female conservative bloggers who have a sense of humor. I love that the posts hit hard, but are not rude or bashing (ok, maybe one or two bash ;) )
    2. I am always interested in the goings on in politics but really hate reading multiple sites – so this is a great place to find a collection of the best stories.

I’m here for the commentary. Our lovely hostess knows I’m quite conservative, but those of you who didn’t, you know now.

I’m a male in my 20’s, conservative and Catholic and I really enjoy reading your postings. They’re very insightful, and that’s what keeps me coming back!
