Design 101 for the right brain

Posted by Kirsten Wright - 05/01/09 at 09:05 am

Creativity and design are believed to be left brain functions. So is blogging. This can be frustrating for those with a right brain mentality, which is where the political and rational discussion part of your brain resides. Especially because the right brain has the talent to come up with the arguments that the left brain wants to write. On top of the writing, a big part of a blog is the design. Many times, the focus of the writing gets put aside because the writer focuses on the look of the blog. I know that when Katie and I first connected, she didn’t like how her blog looked or functioned but didn’t know how to fix it. And this often stopped her from writing, as she really didn’t want to show it off. So, how can we fix this problem so you can get down to writing?

I have picked out 5 fabulous themes for wordpress that, with a little customization, can be made perfect for your new blog. Hopefully one will inspire the creativity in you or give you that push to finally start the blog you have been wanting to write. Especially because we can always use more conservative writers!

Kirsten, great stuff as usual. Thought-provoking topic for sure and I loved it all right up til the part about conservative writers. LOL… very nice how you worked in that subliminal political designation. But where’s the link to your blog/site? I want to read more of what you have to say!

That’s what I get for writing before coffee…I included my bio, but forgot the links! And of course it was written for conservative writers, as this is a conservative blog :)

Another good theme for a wordpress blog is Thesis. I was using magazine basic but didn’t like the typography. I’ve just switched to Thesis, and while it’s not free, it’s easy to customize. I’m a blogging newbie and if I can use it, anyone can use it.
