How a Politician Should Use Twitter 101
Posted by Catherine Favazza - 07/13/09 at 04:07 pmWhen you think cutting edge, you might not think of Roy Blunt–but you should. He is announcing his second quarter fundraising total via Twitter this week, before he announces it anywhere else. The congressman from Missouri is raising money for his Senate campaign to win the seat Kit Bond will vacate next year.
Blunt–who retweeted my post about a conference call with him just last week–issued a statement about his campaign’s use of Twitter:
“Our campaign is using technology and social networking to communicate directly with voters,” Roy Blunt said. “I want to encourage everyone who is interested in the campaign to follow us on Twitter which is a great way to stay in contact. Missourians can follow our campaign on Twitter, Facebook, RoyBlunt.com and in many other ways. We want our campaign to be open and accessible so Missourians can get the information they want about my record and positions on issues directly from me and the campaign.”
Blunt’s team already announced that they exceeded their second quarter goal of $1 million. If you’re interested in just how far they passed that mark, follow him on Twitter.
