Only Two Doctors in the U.S. Senate, on Health Care Reform

“People don’t want anybody between them and their doctor.” -Sen. Tom Coburn

Sens. Coburn and Barrasso are the only two medical doctors in the Senate and–surprise!–they are both Republicans. They appeared on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” today to discuss health care reform and promote their twice-weekly Senate Doctors web show:

I’ve watched the show a few times and have been really impressed, but not how you might think; while their medical credentials are obviously impressive and critical to their role in the debate, I was more impressed with how open these two men were regarding their own medical histories and the health of their families. In their unique roles as doctor, U.S. senator AND patient, Sens. Coburn and Barrasso have incredible authority to speak on health care reform–and I’m thrilled to have them advocating for us.

Watch the doctors’ latest episode today, live at 4:00 p.m. EST. You can also check out the archived shows you might have missed or submit your own questions.
