VIDEO: Are You The Mob? Update: The Left Responds to Anger with Violence

Posted by Catherine Favazza - 08/07/09 at 11:08 am

Writing off average citizens with legitimate concerns as members of an “angry mob” is offensive to those who are just living their lives and worried about the future for their family and business, as Dana Loesch pointed out last night on Greta Van Susteren. It’s been said over and over again, but these people are not being paid. They are not manufactured. They are amateurs, really.

In a few instances, sure, things have gotten out of hand, but that has happened when the unions–the Left–got involved. It is their presence at these events that is manufactured and “fishy.” I wrote Wednesday that we win best when we take the high road, and that idea is more important now than it was then in light of the Left preparing to deal with us.

No matter how you approach it, “the mob” has a negative connotation. Don’t think any of the individuals embracing their identity as part of the “angry mob” aren’t aware of that. But we are reasonable people with reasonable concerns. And if that makes us crazy, so be it.

The video itself is amateur, which I’d like to claim was a deliberate, artistic choice to reflect the true spirit of the movement, but it’s really because this is only my second time editing video. With apologies for the poor sound quality, I give you: the angry mob opposed to government-run health care:

Special thanks to Michael Turk, John Hawkins, and Mary Katharine Ham for sharing their ideas and advice; to SharpElbows for filming the St. Louisians, himself and others; and to Karen Untereker, Moe Lane, Chip Hanlon, Jim Slagle, DSM and Dwayne Horner for appearing in the video.

Update: The Left is responding to reasonable anger with violence. They are the real mob and, thanks in no small part to the SEIU, they are the ones that are part of a vast conspiracy.

I’ve also added links to the blogs and/or Twitter accounts of the folks who helped out with this.

Matt: I know, right? I can’t take credit for that one. If you click the photo, it’ll take you to Dana Loesch’s post with more fun photos like that. Bonus fact: The man in the photo is blogger DSM, who’s also featured in the video. He’s a stay-at-home dad who is frustrated, and I assure you that neither he nor his baby are funded by lobbyists. :)

    Hi Katie:

Great job. I wrote a letter to Senator McCaskill, since I know her professionally. My problem now is getting it directly to her and not a staff member, who will read it and send a preprinted response. I do have her apartment address in Washington and knew her on a first name basis, but have been retired for two years and don’t know if that is still correct. I totally do not want a staffer to read it. Any suggestions short of handing it to her personally at her next town hall meeting. The only problem is that this time the questions will be drawn out of a box and not personally asked, as in the past, thanks to SEIU. I don’t know if I can get near her.

    Thanks, Dave
