How Quickly We Forget…

We’re at war. It’s unpopular to discuss more than ever because the Left has ceased their vocal opposition to the war and much of the Right has distanced itself from the least popular decisions of the nation’s unpopular leader. But it’s not acceptable to ignore the fact that it is still happening.

The Wall Street Journal reports that at least 45 were killed in Iraq on Monday:

Though violence in Iraq remains at postwar lows, insurgent groups are still able to launch deadly attacks in many areas of the country. Monday’s attacks followed two consecutive weeks in which coordinated multi-bomb Friday attacks struck Shiite worshippers on the customary day of rest and prayer.

After Monday’s attacks, Iraqi and U.S. officials reiterated praise for Iraq’s Shiites who have shown restraint in the face of the attacks.

“What’s vital to realize is these attacks have failed to move the Iraqi people to ethno-sectarian violence,” a spokesman for the U.S. military in Baghdad said. “Instead, the Iraqi people have been galvanized against violence. They remember the dark days of 2006-2007 and refuse to be taken back to that time.”
